Friday Photo Flashback....1947

Today is...

I love this picture of my Grandpa sweeping my Grandma off her feet.  And that car.  Oh Gramps, that was one sweet ride!

My Grandparent's were married for 63 years.  Yep.  That's right.  Sixty-three blissfully wedded years!  Their marriage has always been an inspiration to me.

Someone once said that if you want a great marriage than you should ask advice from a couple who has one.  My Grandparent's had a great marriage.  And I want a track record like theirs!  Throughout my life, I have observed some of the things that made their marriage rock solid.

1}  They shared a love for Jesus.

2}  They prayed together every night.

 I remember laying awake and listening to my Grandparents help each other kneel beside the bed and their voices lifting each of us up in prayer.
It was the most beautiful sound in the world.  They even prayed as one.

3}  They respected each other in their words and in their actions.

My Grandma lovingly met all my Grandpa's needs.  She enjoyed taking care of him!  She didn't nag, she didn't boss, she served him in love.   And he always bragged about the beautiful gal he was lucky enough to find and marry.  He LOVED to talk about my Grandma!

4}  They knew how to laugh.

"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."  Proverbs 15:1

5}  For them, the honeymoon was never over!

They kept that flame lit and they guarded it possessively!

    SO sweet! My grandparents just celebrated their 60th. I LOVE to watch them because they are so sweet together. They go everywhere together, still hold hands, and worry themselves sick when the other is really sick. I don't think my grandma left his bedside except when forced to get some sleep by her kids when grandpa was so sick in February. My mom always says she hopes they die at the same time, cuz the one couldn't live without the other. Of course, I hope they don't die till they really KNOW the Savior's love and can join Him for eternity!

    Joye, This post and the pictures are just precious!

    I never knew any of my grandparents. And because of that I have always wanted to be a big part of my grandkids lives.

    I am so happy for you that you had them as role models and godly examples.

    Beautiful...Wonderful...I love that you have this connection! Me and My Sisters had that type of a connection with our Grandma...I think I told you we called her Gramps sometimes cause she was our grandma and our gramps..I know wierd...but she was everything in one! And the HUGEST Saint! She died in a horrible car wreck when she was 76 years old, coming back from a church picnic...She would have loved that story..yes I was out having a picnic and then I was with Jesus!...I can hear her still! Enjoy your blessed memories...And ARE YOU WELL YET ??????????????? Shi~

    Such wonderful photos! Memories of good times and great lives lived with love!

    My sweet Mother passed 2 yrs ago, and it would have been their 58th anniversary...they had 57 years of this same kind of love.

    Joye...my Hubby just happened to be walking by when I was reading this post. I read it out loud to him and I so felt convicted when I read how you described the way your grandmother treated your grandfather. I am so guilty of being a nag and a bunch of other things, but I know it is never too late for a change. I pray that the Lord will show me how to be the kind of wife he wants me to be. Thanks for sharing about your grandparents. What a wonderful story!

    That waas a wonderful story of your Grandparents. Thank you for sharing them with us! My Grandparnts were married for almost 67 years and I learned so much about relationships from their wonderful example. Thank God for loving, God honoring Parents and Grandparents!
