Snowballs: fluffy shaved ice and almost every flavored syrup you can imagine in every combination possible. Top it off with ice cream, whipped cream, caramel, chocolate and (my personal favorite) condensed milk.
These are not to be confused with the "snocones" we got in my yankee state whenever the carnival or circus came to town. Oh, no. These are gourmet. And they come in extra large sizes!
It seems that snowball stands aren't complete without an array of pickled items. The only thing pickled that I grew up eating was a pickle. But here pickled pig lips seem to be a fave. For some reason, I just can't work up the courage to taste this yummy looking treat. Then there are pickled pigs feet, pickled green beans, and even pickled eggs.
I think I'll stick with the snowballs!
What's the weirdest thing people eat in your state?

oh my gosh! picked pork lips??? that's so gross!!! haha I'll stick with the shaved ice... much safer and MUCH tastier I'm sure (though I've never actually tried pickled pork lips... so I guess I can't be too sure) :P
We (not me) eat lutefisk in the great state of Minnesota. We also fry just about everything and put it on a stick at the state fair. (Pick the 3 musketeers bar instead of the snickers. Trust me)
I grew up on snocones (I think we grew up in the same state) and man I miss those!
My fifth grade teacher brought pickled pigs' feet to class and offered extra points to anyone who would try them. Fortunately, I didn't need the extra credit, and I kept my distance. :)
I can't say I've ever heard of pigs' lips...but just for the record, I'm keeping my distance from those, too.
Love the picture of the snow cones! Makes me want one...a peach, with condensed milk, of course!
haha - pickled pig lips!!!! Ewwwww.
People eat huhu grubs here in New Zealand - but I never have!!
even the title of this post made me laugh! *raises hand* that's me too!
and while i can't think of anything weird that they eat around here at the moment, they do have PIG RACES. This is something I thought was only in movies. Haha, hilarious.
Those snoballs look so yummy! Up here they eat 5 pound cream puffs at the state fair!
This Yankee girl moved to Kentucky for 8 years and I never did see pickled pig lips, nor were snowballs very popular!
The region I lived in was very fond of eating peanut butter sandwiches with their chili!
Someone once told me that being in Kentucky wasn't really like being in the South though!
After seeing this, I might have to agree with them!Lol
Wow, Joye! I love your redesign! It looks wonderful and fresh!
Hmmm. the weirdest things in my area:
Pickled eggs are huge. Oh, and I think Shoefly pie is gross....
lol those are all pretty weird! wow!
Wow, I LOVE your new blog design!!! It's amazing!!!
I love those kind of shaved ice snowcones!!! Pickled anything does not sound good to me! Yucky!
i did not know that pigs have lips!
I'm in Upstate NY, I really don't think we have anything gross that is a popular item... :)
Wowzers-the the only thing that may come a distant (very distant that is) second in Los Angeles is maybe chorizo? Still though, I think pickled pig lips-takes the cake! =)
My dad LOVES pickled eggs (ick!) and the strangest thing I've ever had was pig stomach filled with ground beef, potatoes and cabbage...kinda like a huge sausage casing. Not my favorite food...
Love the new look! It totally fits you! Pickled pig lips are pretty weird! I think they eat a lot weirder things in the south. I can't think of any weird things that us northerners eat (but then again that's normal to me lol)
bahaha! oh girl, i feel ya! i'm from cali and have lived in sc for a little while now... i hear of people eating double deep fried pork rinds around here and it makes me want to puke. but pickled pig lips?! now that is really something.
oh, i must trade out your old button for the new one!
hope you have a happy memorial day!
